We have had this endless debate for years and years and still no conclusion. Still a stalemate.
Over the years, we have known in terms of performance, PC has always been the top performer. Its only weak point is how expensive it is initially. But as many say, just like a business, it’s what is called cost of capital. The more expensive it is, the more the returns.you get back. It may sound stereotypical as it sounds having this discussion and I do stand corrected but that is how it is.
There is a disconnect between PC Gamers and console gamers which we believe one day will be bridged with the advancement of technology. The best solution for this is cross-platform. So far we have seen several games with cross-platform such as Rocket League. It has worked well with tests on PC and Xbox One. so far. But a lot of politics is happening between the PS4 and Xbox. A topic for another day.
In the current generation of PS4 and Xbox One, we have seen these consoles adopt PC x86 architecture into their systems unlike their predecessors. That is a clear indication that Sony and Microsoft both know to survive the coming years and have a foreseeable future, they must drop the old system and adopt the PC technology. It is also a vague indication that Console will soon turn into PCs but not fully. They will probably take portions of PC technology while reselling their services and consoles to their respective markets limiting them from moving forward. They realize it what they must do in order to survive in the video game hardware business. This may be such as selling Sony or Microsoft branded PC parts such as motherboards, power supplies, etc. This may also be another subject of debate in terms of strategic management.
In this subject, gamers are uniquely stratified into both PC and console. Console gamers are the more casual, ease of use and connectivity type of gamers that just want to sit down and play immediately hence they are what we call “Lounge Gamers“. PC gamers are the more hardcore, high quality-demanding, bank breaking fellows that want to experience the full effect of what they are investing in. These are what we call the “Aesthetic gamers“. Companies tend to have ease with console gamers but have to wok intensively on PCs to make sure the quality is A*.
Publicly consoles are demeaned by the PC community as “filthy peasants” because they cannot afford the quality deemed as Supreme. That which can only be achieved by the “PC Master Race“(PCMR). Even as far as PC parts are nowadays becoming easily affordable, the stereotyping goes on. And on the internet, being sensitive is creating a punching bag of mockery. The PC community do say they do it all in good faith with the acting of enlighting the console gamers to move to the “promised land”
But consoles have their advantage of ease of connectivity and less involvement in optimization because the console does everything for you. We can continue this endless debate but you can decide what fits your state of mind.
What is your preference?
