As had been long awaited, ASUS started off its year in gaming with a Republic Of Gamers Tournament held in Sarit Centre, Westlands in Nairobi, Kenya. It was a team-based tournament of 8 teams with the main game being Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on the PC platform. Each team had 4 team members competing with each other.
Notable competitors were NOMANENO and Ayax from the infamous Team Mahindi Choma, Team Bandits’ TriadSyndicate, Nul from VoidKings, and also Apex_Neutri from Team Apex. Team Apex had come to the event and the last entries and to our surprise, there was a huge turn of events that took us. The first round began with the traditional Search And Destroy mode of Call Of Duty using the ESL rules.
VoidKings were eliminated by Apex Clan to drop into the Losers Bracket with a notably great effort from Apex_Neutri to rescue the team to qualify Apex into the Winners Bracket. Also in the winners Bracket were the Bandits, PlusUltra Gaming and Mahindi Choma. Apex continued their run until the Semi-finals with Mahindi Choma where the heat of the moment began. Previously Mahindi Choma had relegated the Bandits into the Losers Bracket. The Losers Bracket continued with the Domaination mode where VoidKings and Team Scope were eliminated from the tournament.
The 3rd round and Semi-Finals returned to Search And Destroy on both Winners And Losers Bracket whereby the Apex Clan retired Mahindi Choma by default to the Losers bracket where they met again in the Finals. Being familiar to the teams, Mahindi C.homa had an idea of what to expect from Team Apex. NOMANENO from Mahindi Choma pulled of some amazing clutches twice to put his team back into the lead. Team Apex came back with intense pressure doubling the efforts and putting the game at 4-2. It was now at Match Point chance with the last round NOMANENO was eliminated from leaving Ayax from Mahindi Choma to save his team against Apex_Neutri. With great suspense that lasted for almost 2 minutes, Apex_Neutri eliminated Ayax with a clear shot to lead Team Apex to win the tournament.
Team Apex won the cash prize of Ksh,100,000($1,000) and the first ASUS Kenya ROG trophy. Team Mahindi Choma won Ksh50,000($500) and the Ninja Clan won 3rd place with a cash prize of Ksh25,000($250)
