Game Masters Lounge finally brought their FIFA15 Tournament to a close with lots to talk about. The tournament took place on the 4th of July for what most Americans happened to celebrate as Independence Day. While many were celebrating across the border, others were sweating it out to win the coveted Ksh10,000($110) cash prize. This happened to be their most recent event with over 16 players with very familiar FIFA faces such as Peter Mumo, The Score Gaming Lounge FIFA15 Champion and overall Nairobi FIFA Grand Champion and Patrick Mumu, the K.IN.G.S FIFA Grand Champion.
Although FIFA has not had a popular Championship, it is the most popular video game in Kenya and is used to facilitate several gaming eSports(Electronic Sports) events in the country. For those who are not familiar with eSports events, they are also known as gaming competitions.
In the event, there were 4 booths being used to host the event. The Game Masters Lounge is large enough to accommodate a very huge event of over 28 competitors. Each FIFA game had 5 minutes of play on each half. The facilitators chose to go with the non-conventional method of pool registration making a sort of real football UEFA-centred approach. These is where people go into group stages and compete against each other until they qualify for the last 8 competitors with 2 emerging from each group. Every match won was 3 points, draws were 1 point and loses were zero. After this stage, is where we get the last 8 that go for home and away matches with immediate elimination. This elimination stage reaches until the semi-finals until we find out who are the 2 finalists of the event. Of course, this also means there must be a 3rd place winner. The finalists, as usual, then go at it in the final to see the event’s Grand Winner.
There were 4 groups each of 4 people giving a grand total of 16 competitors. Patrick Mumu and Peter Mumo were placed in 4th and 2rd group with Group D being the group of death. Calvin Mwende of group D was also a face to fear because he was actually the one that eliminated Peter Mumo from the event. This actually came as a shocker that Nairobi’s FIFA Grand Champion was eliminated from the group stages of this tournament. Patrick Mumu qualified  but was eliminated in the last 8 stage. This was a very strange moment for the event seeing that both the most popular competitors of FIFA were down and out.
The semi-finals were then in a fiery spot as spectators were howling and shouting with every shot to see who the finalists will be. Eventually, the finalists recognized were Marvin Kiragu and Calvin Mwende. The final was taken to big screen at the end of the lounge. The bout became pretty intense with Marvin Kiragu headed as Grand Winner of the tournament.
Game Masters promised another tournament in plan soon. I can say with this tournament successfully done, the next one is bound to be a big hit.
