If there is any a moment that is the most shocking in esports history, this has to be at the top of 2017. Mr. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, a godlike figure in League of Legends, was emotionally crushed after his team, SKT, was defeated in a flawless 3-0 loss.
Kotaku had this to say,”Faker is one of the most recognizable names in esports, and widely considered as the best League of Legends player in the world, meriting a massive ESPN profile two years ago. One of his nicknames is literally “God.” But this year’s world championships brought Faker down, denied a fourth world championship at the hands of last year’s runner-up, a team which, like Faker’s*, is named for a South Korean electronics conglomerate.”
Apparently, the broadcast camera caught him weeping after the defeat which was a shocking emotion displayed by the athlete ever since he went pro. That goes to show that esports is a very high stakes industry similar to other physically involving sports.A lot of time and resources is poured out into everything these pro gamers put out.
